qSkills™ Security Summit 2015: The human and the digital machine

News 2015

Nuremberg, August 4, 2015. qSkills™, the independent IT training provider, is hosting the 8th qSkills™ Security Summit in Nuremberg on October 5, 2015. The focus of the one-day decision-makers' forum will be on the in-depth exchange of experiences on current information security and risk management issues in the digital world of today and tomorrow. Renowned experts from business and science will present practical solutions. Keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Dr. Franz Josef Radermacher, University of Ulm and member of the Club of Rome.

Industry 4.0, big data, and cloud computing are some of the dominant topics of our digital age. It is not without reason that they are rapidly changing professional and social interaction. And yet many companies are not prepared for the digital challenges. In a recent study entitled “Industry 4.0 – How to navigate digitization of the manufacturing sector,” experts from the consulting firm McKinsey & Company conclude: “Only six out of ten companies in Germany feel well prepared for Industry 4.0.” One of the findings: “The companies surveyed see employee knowledge, data security, and uniform data standards as the biggest obstacles on the path to Industry 4.0.” With this in mind, organizations of all sizes and in all industries must understand knowledge of new technologies, their networking, and digitization as a key factor and opportunity.

Data security and structural change
Numerous data scandals, cyberattacks, and espionage cases demonstrate one thing above all else: uncertainties surrounding the handling and protection of information are increasing. This is occurring amid growing data volumes and new technical possibilities for networking and digitizing entire sectors of industry and work. Federal Research Minister Johanna Wanka has concluded that data security is one of the most pressing issues. Wanka: “Concerns about malware and other hacker attacks are particularly widespread among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). According to a representative survey, 90 percent of SMEs currently consider data and computer security to be the biggest obstacle on the path to Industry 4.0.” Against this backdrop, companies are being forced to undergo fundamental structural change in terms of information security.

Knowledge expansion is a top priority
“More than ever, highly qualified security expertise is essential in companies in order to make processes, risks, and cybercrime manageable,” says Birgit Jacobs, member of the management board at qSkills™ and initiator of the qSkills™ Security Summit. In order to expand this knowledge in companies, the first step is for management to initiate forward-looking concepts for information security and promote them throughout the organization. “In this context, organizations must abandon the idea that information security is purely an IT issue,” says Birgit Jacobs. She adds: “The end-to-end networking and digitalization of different systems, areas, and entire production units requires new knowledge and in-depth expertise on the part of employees, and this must be trained.”

qSkills™ Security Summit: inspiration, practical experience, and networking
At the qSkills™ Security Summit (October 5, 2015, Süd-West-Park, Nuremberg), renowned representatives from science and industry will offer insights into their daily work. The focus will be on answers to current questions relating to information security and risk management. This will include keynote speeches and practical presentations by Carl Zeiss, the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University, Munich Airport, IBM, Linde, and the Diehl Foundation. One of the highlights will be the keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Dr. Franz Josef Radermacher, University of Ulm and member of the Club of Rome, on the topic of “Humans and digital machines.” Birgit Jacobs sees the goal of the one-day decision-makers' forum as an exchange of experiences among experts. “With the qSkills™ Security Summit, we offer a platform for presenting practical solutions, promoting the exchange of knowledge, and ultimately further expanding the concept of networking. And we are now in our eighth edition,” Jacobs sums up.
