FAQ: Certified Internal Audit Practitioner

News 2016

What is the CIAP program and what are the requirements for certification? Many interested parties have asked us these and other questions, which is why we have compiled the answers in an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

The CIAP program is an offering of the Institute of Internal Auditors and the national internal audit associations (DIIR, IIA Austria, SVIR), through which participants can qualify as certified internal (IT) auditors with an IT or general focus. With certification as an Internal Audit Practitioner (CIAP), graduates demonstrate the expertise to conduct professional internal IT audits.

What do I need for CIAP certification?
As a requirement, successful completion of the basic seminar is necessary, which imparts the fundamentals of internal auditing for Internal Audit Practitioner. This seminar is offered by qSkills™ under the name SC240 CIAP Preparation (Certified Internal Audit Practitioner). When registering for certification, you commit to adhering to the code of ethics and the professional standards of internal auditing. In addition, before the certificate is issued, proof of at least six months of auditing or audit-related (compliance, quality management, internal control) work experience must be provided.

What content does the training cover?
The training prepares participants for the content and structure of the internationally recognized CIAP certification exam (Certified Internal Audit Practitioner). The certificate covers the process of an audit as well as aspects of the audit environment and audit management. Throughout the training, knowledge of the professional standards of internal auditing (IIA IPPF) and basic methods of internal (IT) auditing are imparted.

What is required for the training?
Prior experience as an auditor or auditee in IT, operations, administration, or financial services is advantageous for understanding the seminar content. To pass the certification exam, a willingness to deepen understanding of the exam content beyond the course is necessary. The exam is offered in both English and translated into German.

Where can I get CIAP certification?
The registration process is similar to other globally recognized IIA certificates. In Germany, the professional association DIIR (Deutsches Institut für Interne Revision e.V.) administers the exams. Currently, CIAP certification is not listed on the official DIIR website, but you can obtain the necessary information by contacting the association.

How long does the basic CIAP certification seminar last?
Our course lasts three days and starts at 9:00 a.m. on the first day, ending at 4:00 p.m. on the final day. Open seminars are available in February, June, and October 2016. Find out more at qSkills™.de.

What else is recommended for exam preparation?
To prepare for the exam, we recommend using question collections from the Gleim CIA Review or another CIA Learning System.
