13th qSkills Security Summit, for the first time in online format on October 5, 2020.


With the motto "Security in uncertain times," the IT summit hit the current nerve of the guests. High-caliber speakers shed light on and inspired the IT audience with top-notch contributions on IT security, cloud computing, and data sovereignty.

Active discussions arose during the networking breaks. Here, participants could exchange ideas with the respective speaker in a virtual room.


High-caliber expert program


The expert in international security policy, Professor Dr. Gunther Schmid, opened the IT summit with his exciting keynote: "Globalization in the isolation ward: Economy, international politics, and security after the Corona crisis - An initial assessment and perspectives."

In the session "Cybersecurity needs collaboration" Kai Hermsen, Global Coordinator for the Charter of Trust at Siemens AG, spoke on "From supply chains, ecosystems, and cybersecurity as a strategic priority."

Dr. Alexander Duisberg from Partner Bird & Bird addressed three key points in his presentation "US Cloud Act and Privacy Shield - Showstoppers for German companies?": Data sovereignty as risk management, Legal aspects of US Cloud Act & Privacy Shield, and Gaia X. Finally, he provided interested discussion participants with various recommendations for action.

What requirements and perspectives do German companies have regarding the cloud? What are the activities of European and German providers? Dr. Hans Joachim Popp, Chairman of the VOICE e.V. Executive Board, addressed these questions in his contribution.

Following that, Tobias Schmidt, Director EU Infrastructure Service Delivery at Signode Industrial Group, offered a "deep dive into the engine room" and illustrated the "balancing act between consolidation and IT security."

The IT emergency officer of the DB Group, Tom Theisejans, showed viewers how they can "weatherproof their company" and encouraged them to have "courage for the vision."

Before lunch, Dr. Claudia Deniers, Head of Leadership Development at Siemens Energy, addressed the highly topical issue "What does the organization of tomorrow look like? - Human factor as the key."

"Hacked - when nothing works." In the afternoon, Thomas Pilz, Managing Partner at Pilz, reported on his company's approach to a hacker attack. "The question is no longer if you will be hacked, but when," is one of the key messages of this practical report. Mr. Pilz provided valuable tips for proactive action in terms of cybersecurity to the discussion participants.
