Nuremberg, September 18, 2008. The independent IT training provider qSkills™, in collaboration with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Nuremberg for Middle Franconia and the Nuremberg Initiative for Communication Economy (NIK) e. V., is hosting the first Security Summit on September 29. The national congress with a parallel exhibition is themed "Focus on Information Security!" and brings together 20 top speakers and numerous decision-makers from the IT security sector in Nuremberg. The event focuses on practical strategies for current and future IT security, posing the question: With what strategy can security risks be measured, minimized, or even avoided?
Reports of stolen data, industrial espionage, or careless handling of company-critical information continue unabated. Most decision-makers are aware of the topic of IT security. However, in many cases, companies lack the right strategy for dealing with internal and external security risks. Experts see a high need for action. "Only when the implemented strategy and security requirements correspond to security best practices, confidentiality, availability, and integrity of corporate data are broadly ensured," says Jens Lampert, Central Audit Officer at FinanzIT GmbH and one of around 20 expert speakers at the Security Summit on September 29 at the South-West Park in Nuremberg.
Understanding electronic data as corporate value - across industries
Companies thrive on their information because internal knowledge and proprietary know-how make them competitive in increasingly global markets. This is also confirmed by Dr. Wolfgang Böhmer, a scientist at the Technical University of Darmstadt: "If we want to sustainably compete in a globalized business world, securing critical business information is an essential component." And Frank Romeike, from The Risk Management Network RiskNET GmbH, adds: "To survive in the global stormy sea and increase corporate value, companies must promptly consider opportunities and risks in their corporate governance and optimize their risk-opportunity profile. However, this requires that risk management is lived, which in turn requires a cultural change in companies." Therefore, it is essential for companies to understand their electronic information as a clear corporate value. For Kurt-Jürgen Jacobs, Managing Director of the IT training provider qSkills™, the concept of information security must find its firm place in the corporate mentality: "Protecting information should be viewed as a strategic measure in line with entrepreneurial success. Information is a company's own assets. They must be protected accordingly, across industries."
Security Summit: the "Who is who" of IT security
The diverse requirements in different areas and industries make data security a top issue in the IT sector. "Accordingly, the range of participating companies at the Security Summit is also large. On this day, we look through a kaleidoscope that shows us a diverse spectrum of security questions and solutions," says Kurt-Jürgen Jacobs. In addition to expert lectures, numerous companies showcase their technical security solutions in a parallel exhibition. it-function presents its expertise in digital rights management for electronic documents using an Information Rights Management (IRM) solution. The company Ordix presents the applications and performance of an Oracle™ Auditing. Demal focuses on IT audits, including the introduction of the IT security concept "GoAudit." Riverbed showcases solutions for security in distributed IT landscapes, and noris network highlights the aspect of outsourcing from a security perspective. TÜV Rheinland help AG presents its expertise on "SIEM - Security Information and Event Management." Further presentations from the security sector by NetApp™ on "Protecting sensitive data in networked storage environments" and "phion netfence" from Bechtle round off the Security Summit 2008.
