Description:
Applications are often intended to be developed in decoupled modules in order to bring order and structure to our code and thereby ensure maintainability. Microservices represent a very consistent approach to this, but they can also introduce a high level of complexity.By contrast, “monoliths” are comparatively convenient in development, but they are often suspected of quickly turning into an unmanageable “Big Ball of Mud.”
Spring Modulith attempts to address this problem. It enables Spring Boot applications to be developed within a shared code base (“monolithic”), while defining modules within that code base (“modular”), whose correct usage is continuously verified and ensured through architectural rules. In addition, Spring Modulith extends Spring’s native event system to provide decoupling between modules at runtime as well.
In this live coding presentation, Nils Hartmann will use practical examples to introduce Spring Modulith and discuss with you what consequences this approach has for our applications and for which scenarios it is particularly well suited.
