Objectives:

The course ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals teaches the fundamentals of the STACKIT™ cloud platform and combines theory with practical exercises on compute, storage, managed services, security and cost control. After the training, participants will be able to use STACKIT™ safely and efficiently.

Target audience:

The course ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals is aimed at:
  • IT administrators
  • Developers
  • Cloud beginners
  • Project managers
  • Architects with a cloud focus

Prerequisites:

To be able to follow the learning pace and course content of the training ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals effectively, participants should bring basic IT knowledge, such as a fundamental understanding of networks, servers and general cloud terminology. Prior experience with STACKIT™ is not required.

Description:

The course ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals teaches the fundamental concepts and functions of the STACKIT™ cloud platform and is aimed at beginners who want to gain their first hands-on experience with STACKIT™.

At the beginning, an overview of STACKIT™ is provided: who is behind the platform, which architectural principles form the basis and how the offerings differ from other cloud providers such as AWS™, Azure or GCP. In addition, the data centers, their security concepts and the underlying standards are presented. Afterwards, the participants get to know the STACKIT™ portal. The focus is on login, user and project management as well as role and permission assignment. An overview of the service catalog is also provided.

Another focus is on the compute and storage basics. Here, the Compute Engine, storage options such as block and object storage, as well as the fundamentals of network configuration (VPC, subnets, firewalls) are covered. In a short demo, it is shown how to create a virtual machine and connect object storage. Building on this, there is an overview of managed services, including the database offerings (PostgreSQL, MySQL), the managed Kubernetes service as well as the topics of monitoring and logging. A practical demonstration walks through the provisioning of a database as an example. Security and cost control are also a central topic. Here, the role and permission concept (IAM), network security with security groups and VPN, as well as mechanisms for cost transparency and budget monitoring are presented. This part is rounded off with best practices for secure configuration. In the practical workshop, the participants independently apply what they have learned: they create a project, provision a simple workload – for example a web server – test the storage connectivity and set up monitoring.

At the end of the course ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals, helpful tips and resources are presented. These include documentation, tutorials, community and support channels as well as recommendations for further training, such as the course ST200 STACKIT™ - Architecturing.

The course ST100 STACKIT™ - Fundamentals thus offers a balanced mix of theoretical fundamental knowledge and hands-on exercises, so that the participants are able to use the STACKIT™ platform securely and in a targeted manner after completion.
