Presentation: Spring Modulith

Applications are often developed as decoupled modules to bring order and structure to our code and ensure maintainability. Microservices represent a very consistent approach to this, but they can also lead to high complexity. “Monoliths,” on the other hand, are comparatively convenient to develop but are suspected of quickly turning into a confusing “big ball of mud.” “Spring Modulith” aims to address this problem. With it, Spring Boot applications are developed in a shared codebase (“monolithic”), but within this codebase, modules are defined (“modulithic”), and their correct usage is continuously checked and ensured based on architectural rules. Additionally, Spring Modulith extends Spring’s own event system to ensure decoupling of the modules even at runtime.

In this live coding presentation, Nils Hartmann would like to give an introduction to Spring Modulith using practical examples and discuss with you the consequences for our applications and for which scenarios this approach is particularly suitable.
